Optometrists are registered health professionals, trained to examine, diagnose, treat and prevent diseases and disorders of the eyes and visual system.
A minimum of six to seven years' university education is required to obtain a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree. There are two Optometry programs in Canada: at the University of Waterloo (Ontario) and at the University of Montreal (Quebec).
In addition, there are 17 accredited programs in the U.S. whose graduates are eligible for Manitoba registration.
See Registration Information for more information about the qualifications to practise Optometry in Manitoba.
