Welcome to the official site for Optometry in Manitoba.
The Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) is the regulatory and licensing body for the practice of optometry in Manitoba. We are responsible for enforcement of the provisions of The Optometry Act and Regulation. The purpose of our site is to provide you with quality information about optometry, eye health and vision, and the association.
Our structure consists of a council, committees and staff with our primary functions being:
- set and maintain Standards of Practice
- register qualified practitioners
- respond fairly to public and patient inquiries and concerns
- communicate optometrists' role in the health care system
- promote the importance of eye health and regular, preventive exams
- promote clinical excellence
- practitioner competence
Ultimately, we work to protect the public by enforcing bylaws, rules, and standards. Every optometrist who works in Manitoba must be registered with the MAO.
